Landlords turn to NLA for advice

Published: February 18, 2008

A new phone line set up to offer advice to people with buy-to-let mortgages is proving successful.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has revealed that it received 122 calls per day in 2007.

It offered advice on issues such as removing troublesome tenants, tenancy deposit protection and house in multiple occupancy licensing.

However, as well as some of the more mundane enquiries, the NLA received some rather bizarre requests too.

One centred on a landlord who inspected his property for the first time in two years, only to find that the kitchen had been removed and fitted in another room.

Another saw the tenants in a property leave in the middle of the night, taking the central heating system and double-glazing windows with them.

"As there are more and more issues that landlords have to consider, it is unsurprising that record numbers are calling the NLA Advice Line for help," said David Salusbury, NLA chairman.

"For some theyare seeking confirmation of a certain course of action but for others they require more detailed advice," he continued.

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents recently revealed that average yields increased in January.ADNFCR-1237-ID-18594748-ADNFCR
